Hello everyone. I am new to Monster Keeping but have always been interested in going beyond the typical community tank. I kept African Cichlids in the past but was always interested in SA/CA. I am planning to start a 125 tank in a couple months and have been having issues with a stock list. What are your suggestions. I am curious as to what fish most of you use as a bottom feeder or will the Cichlids clean any detrius(my Africans never did)?

A lot of guys keep appropriate sized catfish or plecos with their cichlids. I like plecos because of their toughness. Body armor never hurts when you`re hanging with CA cichlids!

Welcome aboard.

Just be aware that common and sailfin plecos are a huge strain on the bioload of any tank. They mess far more than they clean. Gravel vac with the Python is the way to go to clean the bottom.

Clown loaches and geophagus will help stir up any waste into the water column so that the filters will get it. What sa/ca are you considering?

I have done some reading and asked the only reliable employee at the LFS so i am kind of thinking a few green terrors but i read that if they pair up they can become aggressive. Besides that i like the Golden Severums and the Firemouth but i haven't read anything about the firemouths really. What suggestions do you guys have?

A single gt maybe a trio of sevs and a small group of firemouths could work

Smaller geos are great bottom cleaners (at least they pick up any big stuff my larger guys drop) +1 on the gravel vac for the rest of it.

If you're thinking of going with sevs and firemouths then the door really open up with what bottom feeders you want.
