i was planning fw rays for the 150 but apparently all my tanks hold right at 7.8, so instead of doing the peacocks in the 40, im going to do them in the 150. i have a brand new fluval FX5 that i plan on filling all the center chambers with biomax. i also plan on using a 404 for mainly chemical filtration, and 2 303s that will be mainly biomax. do they enjoy a strong current to play in the way the mbunas do? if so i can add a strong powerhead just for the flow. i plan on using 150 pounds of estes' black marine sand on top of egg crate. i will have a black background. i have some rock work, but plan on adding more, probably mainly black slate. i have a 6' double bright on there. how many should be able to have in this setup and are there any changes that i should do? i plan on weekly 50-75% water changes as with all my tanks.

The Aulonocara are not as robust as the mbuna so I don't think it is too good an idea to make too much current. With all that black, won't the fish think it is night all the time????? :screwy:
Why not try something closer to their natural environment!!!!!! :nilly: :nilly:
:naughty:  :headbang2 :nilly:

i like the black idea, brings out the color of the fish. I have my mbuna in a tank just like that except i have black sand, and crushed coral. Go with your tank, remember its YOUR tank.

actually if you read about theur natural habitat, they are down as deep as 60 meters in lake malawi, not exactly blazing sun. and i doubt they will confuse day and night with a six foot double bright on there.

im thinking about using the 60 pounds of black sand i have and just mixing in 90 pounds of white sand to lighten it up, keeping the decor neutral colors so they will still stand out.

It was too far and lookng back at it I shoudln't have said that. The main point is still true though.
