I'm in the plannings of building a new enclosure or my female blood python. Currently in a glass aquarium. I have a ceramic heater in it and it dose fine. Question is should I use the same or choose another method? The tank will be made from wood with a acrylic viewing.

glass or pvc is your best bet for any enclosure you build. PVC preferably because it holds moisture extremely well.. if you can get your hand on 1/2 inch it also holds heat extremely well...

Wood holds heat very nicely as well, and if sealed correctly will stand up to high humidity for quite a while, especially with regular resealing.

Your best bet would probably be to cut a hole in the plywood, place the heat lamp at the hole, and cover the hole opening with a metal mesh so that the snake can't burn itself on the bulb.

Or you could try heat tape or heat pad that you would attach to the inside ceiling of the enclosure, ensuring that the snake couldn't rest against it and burn itself.

I'm using 3/4 plywood. i was searching around and found that some people have use drylock on the insides for a moister barrier. Also was trying to figure how to keep her from dumping the water dish.

Drylok would work well for waterproofing (or at least moisture proofing) and it can be tinted other colors just like normal paint.

What kind of water dish do you have? I just use a 2 qt tupperware container, and my ball python doesn't move it around at all.

As of now she has a large dog bowl and she spills it all the time. She's about 3-4 ft now. the pic in my signature is from 2008.

Is it one of the metal bowls, or the heavy ceramic ones? The heavy ceramic bowls that are sloped so that they're hard to spill might work. Or you could do a bowl within a bowl. Screw one bowl down to the bottom of the enclosure, then fit another (removable) bowl inside the first one. That would make it much more difficult to spill.

Its a plastic on i got from Wal-mart. I like the idea of screwing the bowl down. Maybe even do it with a rectangle Tupperware.

I'm getting all my materials together, got to go to Lowes tomorrow and get a few more things. Once i got everything ill start a build thread.

Sounds good, and good luck! I just picked up a bunch of stuff today and cut wood for my iggy's new (smaller) build. I'll post pics once I'm done of the build process as well. hope yours turns out nice!
