I'm new to sumps and I'm planning on making one and i need some advice on how to set it up, any advice? i already have two fx5s and they do a good job but i want to try to incorporate and under gravel filter. would it be possible to get an under gravle filter and hook it up to the sump?

I love the 55 gallon tank for sumps! I have 5 of them!

I took a couple pics when I was stetting up my 180 with a 55 gallon sump.

I drilled two holes in the side, one for the trickle system drain and the other is for the return.

From the left the water comes into the sump from the overflow and drops into a filter sock. Then it goes under a glass baffle that is set at 1" above the bottom. You can see 1" PVC plumbing holding the glass up while its drying.

The middle section is filled with bioballs and I have "egg crate" light diffuser bottom 1" above the bottom and a couple more baffles

Last section is the pump return and the drain for the trickle. I put the drain as low as possible then put a 90 on it to raise the water level in this part as much as I want.

Whats the return gph of that pump and whats the gph of your overflow here?
And that shut off valve, will that not damage the pump if you shut the flow of the water??
