Hello all! I have a 75g waiting for its official stock. Right now it just has about 20 tetra's and a couple BN pleco's to keep it cycled. Ever since I could remember my father kept Oscars as his wet pets. I remember he had this unbelivable pair called "Bonnie and Claud" not sure why type of oscar. This ultimately got me into the hobby ;) He kept them alone in a 90g for life until they passed away at the ages of 11 years old (i think).

I know that 75g is the minimum for ONE Oscar but I would really like to get two. 1 Gold Oscar, and 1 Wild Trinidad O. Tank would be overstocked; However my aquarium husbandry is by far tip top.

Filtration would be one AC110, XP3, and a Emporer 400. I would like to house the two oscares with 4 Silver Dollars as a "target" fish. Maintenance would be WC every 5 days 30%, filter maintenance (1 filter) every month. You think I could get away with this overstocked tank if my water changes, maintenance, and diet for the O's are on par?

Thank you very much for your opinions.

The reason most people won't recomend two oscars in a 75 gallon beacuse-
A- The bio-load is huge and beyond control of your average little billy, and
B- Because if you end up with two males they'll beat the **** out of each other.

:)

Good Luck,
Art

I think that it would depend on the Oscars. You seem to know what your getting into. Now you'll just have to convince the O's to get along. Good luck.

You could make it work if you plan everything right and keep up lots of water changes. Your best bet is to pick out 5 young oscars and let 2 pair off. If you do not do this you could end up with a non paired male/female that don't get along or 2 males that would never get a long. Even if you end up with 2 females they probably still won't get a long. I would leave out the silver dollars as well. They will only add more to the bioload and will do nothing to prevent aggression. Just pick out a nice group of young oscars and rehome the others once a pair is formed.

Good luck!

Oscar are nice but are some pigs. Very messy eaters. You sure you want to add an o? You will need a bigger tank soon.

he just needs to keep up the WCs and he has pretty good filteration..... i had a pair a while back they breed once and then i had a power outage for like 2 weeks and they ending up not makeing it.

i guess it might work with plenty, and i mean plenty, of water changes and great filtration
