So in my room i have a 6ft long dresser that has my 20l and 29 gallon tanks on it. Ive visited this thread here and there and like following the builds. Well the other day i had a idea, why not build a custom tank to fit onto the dresser and get rid of the other 2. Now the dresser is a little tall so a high tank is out of the question. Even the 29 at 18 inches high poses some problems when im tring to plant stuff at the bottom.

So my idea is 72 long 24wide and 14 tall. Using one of those gallon calculators it came out to 104 gallons. I think this would be fairly easy to build, and wouldnt need too much material. Also my father is a carpenter so have plenty of tools.

Now my biggest concern is structurial security. Would a tank that long and low need some supports on the corners and middle to keep it from bowing or do you think that 3/4 inch plywood would hold up fine.

No, I don't think a tank that long and low would need additional support to prevent it from bowing. I also think you will be a able to find a tank that will fit your need cheaper on Craigslist, etc. You should be able to pic up a tank that will fit on that dresser for 75-100.00, your not going to build it for that!

Its not worth the trouble. Building a tank doesnt save you money unless you go big. Or have a custom idea you want to do. (ie. wide tanks)

well the problem is I havent been able to find any information on factory made tanks that are that long and low. Its not really about saving money. When you get into these bigger tanks, they get much taller and the 29 at 18 inches is the max height i think i could pull off. Anything else i would need to break out a step ladder to do any matinence.
