Would like to get a jardini, any help/input would be appreciated.
I won't be offended if you guys think my setup is not suitable.
I wouldn't want the jardini to be unhappy and could wait a few more years til I actaully get a larger tank.
But just wondering if it was possible to get a jardini now with my current setup.

I have been in the fish keeping hobby for about 2 years I believe I am ready to try a Jardini.
Currently own a 55g african cichlid tank, 150g /w 40g breeder sump. a 11 inch albino oscar, 8 inch pleco. And a 37g tank that I use to breed rosy red minnow feeders for the oscar.

Recently graduated from college and saving money for a larger tank. I would like to get a jardini between 8-10 inches to put in the 150g until I can afford a 300g tank. The 40g sump has a mag 9.5 pump, compartments for sponges, biohome sintered glass media, and k1 micro moving bed. As mentioned before, the 150g currently has an 11 inch albino oscar and 8 inch pleco, I will get rid of the pleco before getting a jardini. However, would the jardini be fine with the oscar? or would it be best I get rid of the oscar as well? How long would the 150g last for the jardini?

I checked a couple LFS in my area and only two had Jardini's around 8-9 inches.
I will call the two stores LFS A and LFS B

LFS A is known to sell their fish cheaper but they keep the fish in small tanks. Jardini's were $129 each Not sure what the jardinis' were being kept in could be considered a tank, since the space was so small. They had two Jardini's in stock which were kept in a tank which appeared to be no more than 2-3 gallons. To give you an idea, tank size was about two cereal boxes taped together. There was absolutely room for the fish to swim or turn. Both jardini's had slight tears on fins and what looked to be white patch of skin between their barbels. However, due to the price they are never in the store long and are usually gone within a week, they are always getting more. They also sell a bunch of 5-6 inch silver arowana for $25 a pop and they go fast. I have been watching them for months.

LFS B is a bit more expensive than A. They had three jardinis in stock. Two were priced at $170 Each The third one was priced at $189 and coloration was nice. The first two looked more silverish while the third one was green. I really like the third one but wanted to ask you guys if $189 is a fair price? The jardinis at this store were each kept separately in about 20 gallon tanks and looked much healthier than LFS A.

I have uploaded some pictures of the third jardini I saw at LFS B

Hi jlazy
I can give you a few jardini pointers no problem :)
How long do you think it'll take you to upgrade the 150 ? If you put a 8" jar in it'll probably reach 12" within a few months then start to fill out before another growth spurt , so my guess is 6months and the upgrade will be needed definitely.
As for your current stock , the plec you could keep the Oscar will either nail the jar when small or get nailed once it grows so that'd be the fish to rehome in my opinion. Jardini are very aggressive arowana and don't mix well with cichlids deaths and injuries are pretty much certain at some point.
From what you've said if I was you i would pay the little extra and go with a fish from the second shop , healthy fish live longer ;) and it sounds like the first shop don't deserve your hard earned cash.
I'm in the UK so not really sure on going rate prices in your area , but in UK £100 /£125 is usual price for a 8-10" jar , so that works out around the same price as your us dollar one.
The fish in the pics looks nice and healthy , it looks like a slightly spooned head but that's just personal preference on looks no issue regarding health.
Please feel free to scan through my jardini thread you'll prob find lots of useful info from various mfk's aswell as myself :D
