Well like it says FIRST thank, let me know what you think and deffiently if i need to change these in any way.
As far as the tank ive decided i want to make a L shaped plywood tank. I attached a image of the plans as its easyer to draw then to discribe. I would use 1/2 acrylic for the 4 viewing sides. And use either 3/4 or 1 inch plywood to build the tank frame with braces on the top every two feet, for these im considering a 1x4? As far as sealing it i would like to jusr use black epoxy, but what kind? And what kind of reinforcement do i need for the corneres, if any? I would rather overkill and be succesful, then not do enough and flood my basement.
Also i want to add a DIY moon light system in the top, what i was planning on doings is drilling holes and adding blue leds every 2 inches or so all the way around the tank, as well as in the top support beams. I thought this would give it a more equal lighting effect then just the strips of leds, which would help alot do to the poor viewing angle of most common led's.
As far as substrate i was considering river pebbles from lowes or home depot as i would need quite a bit to cover everything and am not going to pay $5 for 20 lbs. I belive i seen a 50 pd bag for around $7 the other day.
Ok, here is the part im still ify on. Filtration - i want to do something affordable but reliable, i was considering using multiple canisters one of the guys at my LFS suggested 4 Jebo 829's ( has any one heard anythign good about jebo)? I would prefer canister though.
What i WANT to do, i dont know for sure if i can, will you please tell me, is use the modular ball joints to make jets, and bulk heads to have them built onto the backside, i dont know for sure how many but as many as possible, both hi and low, to direct the water flow comming back from the filter, my orignal idea included 12 of these, would it be possbile to run 3 possibly 4 "jets" off the return line of 1 canister filter? ANd i would like to use place strainers across the bottom of the back every foot or so just about 4 inches up as the intake ports for the filters. I figured to more i could have the less dead spots.
I'm wanting to make this a cichlid tank with a few other fish such as loaches, and possibly a few sharks)
Well let me know what you guys think... i wont be starting for a while as its cold in kansas and im told i have to let my plywood tank cure for a week after epoxying it outdoors.
