Hi, i'm Dr.B i have about 7 java ferns, 2 what i think is hornwort, and 2 of some plants my LFS threw into the deal. My java ferns are just dong horibble. i bought 2 for my 75 gallon with gravel and had them for about a month. No new growth only leaves slowly turning brown then rotting off. And now i bought 70 bucks worth of plants for my 20 gallon for my apistogrammas that are supposed to come in at the end of august i need a solution and i need one fast. I have 4 juli corydora currently in there now and i'm planning on getting 2 apistogrammas (fire red agasizii) and like 3-4 neon tetras, as well as about 10-15 Red Cherry Shrimp. My lighting fro my 20 gallon is Aqueon 8,000k full daylight spectrum 15w 120v T8 18". And just for some extra help my 75 gallon lighting is Aqueon 8,000k full daylight spectrum 32w 120v T8 48". I really need help i just can't find any info anywhere so i was hoping you guys could help me out because i don't want to loose 70 dollars worth of plants. Don't know if i added this but when i transferred the 2 java ferns from the 75 gallon to the 20 gallon my 20 gallon has sand. I Just today added sand to my 75. And i really don't want to add a Co2 system i would really like to prefer some kinda supplament. I have been looking at tablets you put under the roots and other C02 boosting things etc.... Thanks in advance Dr.B

Liquid co2 I know api makes one and a liquid plant fert is a good start under root tablets are also good for this go to your lfs and ask questions theyll help you out alot

None Of my LFS' know anything the closest ones that know something are an hour away. But do you think that under the root tablets will work or any of the chemicals. Or should i use the under the root tablets with the chemicals?

I just use Flourish complete supplement (as ferts) and Flourish Excel (as Co2 supplement) personally if its non-demanding plants

Good lighting co2 and and a good plant fert will go a looooong way. Liquid CO2 is a must imo cause we as fish keepers like to keep well oxygenated water for our fish and during photosynthesis the plant takes in CO2 and sunlight to make food for themselves and there isnt really enough in the water as is in order to feed the plant the plant fert and root tabswill help in the growth of the plant

Well to be fair, nothing really beats true Co2 Kit... i've used the liquid Co2 for about a year or more now and while i agree it works for less demanding plants, but on the other hand some plants just will not grow properly, or won't grow nearly as nice as with a true Co2 Kit... which is why even i've given in and am picking up one tomorrow coz i've just setup a new planted tank and have noticed my HC carpet is not doing well at all (although this was expected without Co2 kit)...

THE only reason i have said no to a C02 kit is because it is like 100 for one for my 20 gallon. When i have a little more money i guess i can get one. But i just changed both my 75 and 20 to sand. And added plants and got fish. so 150. And i placed an order for 2 pairs of apistos (my LFS cut me a deal since i purchased 70 bucks worth of plants) and now a single pair is 70 each. Where as it was 100 for each so i saved about 50 bucks there. But i was thinking maybe the root tabs and chemicals/ supplements could hold them off for a year or 2. Until i have enough for a decent one. Unless there is some where online that sells them for cheap. Thanks for the help guys. Sincerely Dr.B

I mean the supplements work great dont get me wrong, but some plants are true Co2 hogs, and without a kits won't grow...

Now in all fairness i dont know what new plants you ordered so they could very well do okay without Co2 injection... But if they are plants like HC carpets, then its hard to say if they will last long without true Co2 as mine are suffering after just 1-2 weeks

Anyway, with the current plants in your tank not using Co2 should be fine as long as you dose with Excel and Flourish as recommended on the bottle...
