I have no doubt that this has been discussed in Previous threads so I apologize for redundancy. I am still fairly new to plants but have noticed excessive algae growing on the leaves of my plants. Is there a way to eliminate this or prevent it from continuing?

Hello; First guess is the length of the lighted period. Second guess is the strength of the lights. Third is the type of light. Hint: you gave so little information all I can do is guess.

Suspect too long of a light period as well.

Would wipe the algae off of the anubias with a soft sponge. Move to a area with less intensity of light. Doesn’t need a lot of light on it. Increase water changes and make sure there isn’t too much nitrates.

Are u dosing fertilizers?

Sorry for lack of info. Wasn’t sure what information was needed for plants. Light period is 8 hours per day. I do 10-15% water changes every other day. Did not test this week but nitrates are usually low, below 20.
I honestly don’t know he strength of the lights. There is a fluorescent that came with the tank set up. 17w T8 bulb. Hopefully that helps. There is also a BeamWork LED that hnfortuanely I did not keep the paperwork for so I do not know how powerful it is. Will try to find some info online. Is there anything else needed that will help assist?

Not much else. Think if u up ur water changes, rub off the algae, and reduce the intensity of the light it’ll ease up. Looks like u got swords, anubias and ctyptocornea which aren’t too demanding.

Yes to ferts. I dose with flourish once a week. About 2.5 ml. There are also root tabs

That is exactly which plants I have. Did some research and tried to keep them simple. This is my first attempt at plants. It’s a tang cichlid set up so I have always read that wc should be smaller amounts but I will increase to daily.

Have similar and had the algae too. Just rearranged everything and i dose twice a week. Everything is doing great now. Try maybe using a diffuser under the lights.

Will try everything stated.
Just to understand I should dose with flourish 2 tines per week? That will actually help reduce algae?

hello; No, now that I think on it you may be overdosing ferts. I only do plant tabs at the roots of my swords which are heavy root feeders. I do not do liquid ferts at all normally.
In the nitrogen cycle of a tank the final outcome is nitrates. We do water changes (WC) to reduce them but they are also plant ferts in themselves.
It might be that too much ferts cannot be taken up by the plants and that the algae are using them.
I would normally suggest reduced light but you are already at a short lit photoperiod.
