Plant nitrate filter

I'm in the process of adding a mint plant HOB plant filter on my 55g.

My question is, do I have worry about pesticides?? I bought the plant from Whole Foods Market, it isn't marked as Organic, but given its edible, does this make it safe?
Any information would be fantastic! The last thing I want to do is poison my fish...

I put some bamboo stalks in that I know had once been given miracle grow, washed the roots real good and stuck em in and no problem. If you wash the plant real good you should get everything bad off, plants don't soak up insecticide... I hope.. Or we would all be consuming it daily
