I purchased a potted plant a few weeks ago from one of those chain lfs, the tag said Val.species and it was about 12 inches tall. (Ok, I've grown corkscrew val before so I thought I'd try it.)
This plant only took about a week to touch the water surface (about 20 inches), two weeks later the leaves not only reach the water surface, but also go nearly four foot across the top of the tank:WHOA::WHOA::WHOA:.

The leaves look like the corkscrew (but without the twist) about a half inch wide, and I'm not joking, the leaves are approaching six foot long!!!!

Without pictures can anyone tell me what I'm dealing with? Not to mention what do I do with it. Its already sending out runners.............

Hard to say without a picture as many vals have a similar look. They are very fast growers, and will quickly overgrow the top of the tank.

begin to trim the plant is it gets too long. you could have a nice hedge in your tank, as to what kind, i dont know much about aquatic plants.

mannn!!! i need some of that stuff... i can barely get my val to grow... plus my fish eat half my plants before they give a chance to prosper

mine is just starting to take off

hey when u trim val and get the cut bits without roots can u plant thoose in and get more val?
