Hey guys,
Tank is 300g, white sand and stock:
Clown loach
Red tail shark
Datnoids
Arowana
Flagtail

Just wondering shall I add some plants to the tank ? Was just thinking maybe amazon swords.
What's the advantages or having plants ? Is it good for water ? Do they give out oxygen ?

I have two small pieces of bogwood in tank also.

Thanks

Live plants are always good for water as long as dead leaves aren't littering and clogging tank/filter.

In a 300 gallon you'd need massive amounts to see benefits of filtration or oxygen production. I have about 10-12 pieces in a 10 gallon, thinking of adding more.

But it would look nice and give the fish more comfort.

Hmm so basically I'll need a lot more plants to notice a difference ?
And in what way does it help the water ?
Will 3-4 plants help at all ? Or should I not bother ?
Thanks

I have had no luck with live plants and clown loaches. They decimate my plants and seem to love to destroy amazon swords... Mines even will kill anubias! They usually kill the plants by eating/destroying the new growth... Some people have success with their clowns not destroying their plants though. Plants will use the nitrates in the water to complete the biological cycle. It will help somewhat but won't be noticable until there is a substantial biomass of plants in your tank. I would get the plants for looks, but if you don't care much about that just stick to water changes to help reduce the nitrate buildup.

Decided to get some amazons today they look pretty good and big ! Loaches so far are ok with it hopefully when I get back from work their still in...

I've never seen loaches mess up plants.

I'd be much much much more worried about the flagtail actually. If they're pretty big they can really destroy some vegetation. That's why I've never had one 8)

Yeah my flag just goes around sucking everything.. Loaches seem to be the problem as they dig around and uproot my plant...
But last time I had some stones holding it down the flag didn't really kill it hopefully same thing this time round!
Anyone know any plants that go well with amazons ?
Really looking to get some more as it is basically bare now just sand and the 5 amazons.
