So i was taking care of my plants out side while the tank has ick. and came up with an idea. so let me know what you guys think.

get a water bottle, cut it to make a cup out of the bottom.plant and fill it with gravel or subrate of your liking. if you want you can use a hole puncher to make holes all over the sides and possibly bottom.

now you have a your plant it's clear so it doesn't stand out. you can even bury it in surounding gravel.

so if you have to remove a plant or plants you can do so with out uprooting it. what do you guys think?

pros and cons?

could work... soulds like a good idea...

problem... the bottle is thick... maybe there use a thinner bottle... such as a small shampoo size bottle...... and you would need a nice sized depth on the gravel

One question... other than the replanting ability, what reason do you have to do this? Your nutrient uptake will be very minimual. That said, I see a few problems.

1) stunting of the plant -- This will be caused by the fact many plants will outgrow a container that size.
2)Lack of nutrients -- many aquatic plants take up their nutrients through their roots, by having the plastic barrier you limit this, unless you have the holes (leads to problem three).
3)With holes you will still be uprooting -- Many plants will have very fast growth of roots, and will quickly be through the plastic, and by rooting into the actual substrate will suffer more problems uprooting this way. When uprooting plants I always dig them out first. This method will cause the least amount of stress to the plant.

All said, I do not recommend doing this method, if you choose to do so, use large plastic, such as a gladware dish.
