I have 180 gallon central american tank that I would like to TRY to plant. I think it would help with my Nitrates a bit (they are just fine, but I would feel better knowing that plants are using some). I know that my fish will bite/eat the plants, but I would still like to give it a shot. I have 2 48" Beamworks LED lights, and 2 24" Beamworks LEDs for lighting. I don't have CO2 or any additives for plants. My water is quite hard, but I have lots of driftwood in the tank. I also do 25-30% water changes every week. The tank is always around 78-81 degrees. Do any of you guys have some suggestions on what I could attempt to grow? I have only ever attempted Java Fern, Java Moss, and some type of Anubias in my other tanks. Thanks!

No substrate, low levels of light, no co2, and cichlids = bad combination for growing plants. If I were you, I would buy a 10 gallon tank and then buy some plants. Grow the plants a bit using diy co2 and a substrate, and then when they are large enough you can put them in the big tank.

I know it isn't the best scenario. I don't have a spare tank or CO2 equipment. What about something like Jungle Val?

Amazon Frogbit. Or really any floating plants. They have no need for CO2 or a substrate, they just need light and nitrates.

What is a floating plant that is maybe a bit larger and more solid? I have some AC110s as filtration that might suck up smaller things. Water lettuce?
