Hey guys
looking for help searching for ideas for fish to go in a 29g planted tank.
Open to any suggestions. How would any cichlids fare in there and what types of fish would fit in with shrimps?

Just looking for general ideas its my 1st planted.

Cheers!

I would say look at Honduran Red Points. They are related to Convicts so stay small. Could do a pair with some kind of tetras for dithers, a small catfish like Hoplo or Corys, bushynose pleco. I have this setup in a 55gal, so there are a lot more other fish all cohabing in peace.

Here is my pair. They have breed at least ten times now, but I only have five of thier babies. The other fish in the tank keep the fry in check, that in turn keeps the HRP's busy breeding so they don't bother the other fish in the tank. 20180815_175051.jpg

I would do a
1. pair of Apistogramma species, school of 6-8 tetras, and a BN pleco or group of cory cats.
2. A single pair of angles
3. 12 tiger barbs with a group of corys or BN pleco
4. 8 dwarf neon rainbowfish group of corys

Any cichlids other than apistogramma/rams, will likely eat your shrimps. If you are trying to breed the shrimps, pretty much every fish will eat the shrimplets and cripple your numbers. Most larger cichlids also will tear your plants, or if they don't, will dig them up. Only cichlids I would recommend for a true planted tank would be apistogramma or rams.
Personally I like scarlet badis for a planted tank

With that said, it can be done if you are determined. Here is my panamensis in my planted tank. He does pick at some of the smaller leafier plants, so I replace them with things more like anubias, with though leaves, as he does. Also, he (or my swordtail, or both of them) ended up killing a bunch of the smaller fish over time. It was fine for a while but stuff slowly has been dropping. And I will be replacing with some more boisterous fish.
