planted discus tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You'll need plants that can tolerate the higher temps that discus prefer (80F+), and most of the "easy"lants will melt at those temps. Many of the best Discus tanks I've seen involve lots of bogwood, and where there's bogwood, you can easily include rhizome plants like Java ferns and Anubias. Anubias in particular can tolerate high temps and the dim lighting discus feel more comfortable in. If you use a broad leaf variety like A. congensis, the discus may use them for breeding as well. Didipilis Diandra is a stem plant that can tolerate higher temps, though it does best in high light. Sagittaria subulata is a grassy plant that makes good forground cover, but again, will do best in high light. For an unusual touch, Criniums or onion plants aren't finiky about lighting and can tolerate higher temps. If you have discuss that like to nibble leaves, then crinium is a good choice.

amazon swords, java ferns, java moss and willow moss are great groud covers. another great plant is a Camomba. I just read a great article about it in the march issue of TFH. pick it up if you dont get it. We just put about 25 of these in our 180 planted discus display tank at my LFS and they are doing so well. they are a great plant to fill up the tank and dont require a huge co2 system.

i agree aquariumplants.com is very good . they are honest and have great products. they were suppose to offer a discus package
