Ok so no one in the piranha forum seems to appreciate planted piranha tanks so I decided to post it here. Enjoy!

Looks very cool!

I'm in the process of setting up a similar tank.... I'm a brand new member here (first post!), so this is a great post to stumble upon.

What kind of lighting do you use? Is that a 75g tank? I'd love more details!

Very nice !

if you want to see a very beautifully planted piraya tank check out HarleyK's tank it's amazing might give you some ideas.

Thanks guys I've actually got alot of info from Harley he's a great guy. And the tank is a 60"x18"x20" I think it's a 100gal and i'm running 4 4' t5ho. Now I'm just waiting for everything to grow out and fill in.

Beautiful tank indeed! That's how I want my tank to look. So pretty. Hmm. Don't the biggies go after the little fishes, as snacks?

How would you gauge your light quantity, for 4 T5HO bulbs? Too much, too little, or just about right?

I'm trying to decide how many 4' T5HO bulbs to install on my own tank (60"Lx18"Dx26"H) which is rather similar to yours. My canopy holds three 4' T12 old fluorescent bulbs that don't seem to provide enough light to grow my plants. But other (sticky) MFK forums say that using 2 T5HO bulbs would be almost too bright, and would just lead to algae problems. Do you agree? Or not? How many would you recommend I use? I don't really want to add CO2. Do you add CO2?

Well right now I'm monitoring everything and trying to balance the lights, nutrition in the water, and water parameters so that I wouldn't have to run co2. And hopefully I can get a balance. But the reason why I'm doing t5s is cuz it's brighter/ more watts per gallon, and since the tank is high it'll be easier for the light to penetrate the water with the t5s.

Good luck w/ that. Let us know how it goes. We've had nicely planted tanks (w/o CO2) for decades, but never as deep as this. And now our plants are suffering from both low lighting and the constant foraging of 4 big hungry SAE (among others). I wonder which has greater effect?

Howdy,

Very nice tank  Can't wait to see how the plants fill in!!!

If I may suggest one addition, then that's tall plants with leaves on the surface, or floating plants, or floating cork bark. That will help the pirayas to relax. As soon as they are settled completely, your tetras will decline in numbers ;)

Again, very sweet planting, and make sure to post updated pics soon!

Happy Plantkeeping,
HarleyK
