Planted poly tank?

sure you can, bichirs wont eat plants and i dont think the other fish do. you might have some uprooting probs tho.
 
Use short bushy plants like any of the Anubias species or use floating plants
bichirs don't really destroy of uproot plants like many cichlids.They can uproot them chasing and looking for food-Anne
 
yeah... don't get any delicate leaved ones like aponos. i'd give the plants some time to establish their roots before addng the fish, too.
 
my lap just seems to sit on them and crush them lol, prob best to use stronger/more rigid plants then I did :D Other then that I've not had problems!
 
FLoating plants I'd suggest to anyone, they will sit and sleep in them, water at the surface is warmer and since they breathe air. if they can sit near the surface at night they will too, they'll get out of the water and "tan" if they can, you'll notice them getting darker if they've been out during the day it's great.
