I have a bunch of plants in my 29 right now. I was wondering if 1/2-1" of plant nutrient substrate covered with 1/2-1" of pea gravel on top would be an ok substrate or do i need more? and if I were to siphon out all of the water and leave all the substrate in and will the bottom blow out? I mean just shatter under the weight? Cause i dont want to have to remove all the gravel and nutrients and have to buy more because they mixed? I'm moving soon but not soon enough where the plants will live without the nutrients. thx

If the bottom is supported it should be able to hold it, i just ordered some eco complete and it SHOULD be here tomorrow night. Cant wait

The bottom will not shatter from the weight. You are releasing weight from it when you siphon out the water. Just be careful not to twist the tank or slosh the weight around while you are moving it.

Your substrate thickness sounds fine for most plants, though it may be hard for runner-producing plants like vals to get their plantlets rooted through that much gravel.

O so less gravel? I was thinking more gravel. so what about like 1/4-1/2" of gravel and then 1/2-1" of plant nutrient rich soil?
