I was thinking giving my husband my growout tank for a small sw tank. problem is i used flourish and kent pro plant in the tank for plants. this tank might have inverts and eel and corals. would it be safe to use this tank considering the metals and chemicals in the products listed above. floursih contains copper iron and iodine i think. if its not safe is there any procedure that can be done to make the tank safe? please help cause if this helps i get a new 55g cichlid tank :D

Well for starters, clean the tank, scrub agressively, wrince thuroughly, etc and should be fine, if concerned run the tank (completely empty besides water) for a few weeks with carbon to remove residues. If your still worried, you could maybe use a dilute acid rince (something strongish like Muriatic aka HCl aka hydrochloric acid but diluted with water, as at full strength its way strong and rather dangerous...) as that would disolve any metals bonded to the glass and allow them to be wrinced out, but I think that is WAY over kill lol.

This is one of the most overated worries in the hobby in my opinion. I have used dozens of old feshwatrer tanks in my salt systems that I had personally medicated with all kinds of things. I have kept inverts including corals in these systems long term with great growth over the years. Give it a good cleaning and sleep easy!
