Hi in my 80 gallon I currently have an oscar, a jd, and a convict, plus a few pictus and pleco, all of which are still only a few months old. I would really like to do some aquascaping, and turn it into a fairly decent looking planted tank. Would it at all be possible to use live plants with these fish? Have any of you ever pulled off a planted tank look with fake plants? Thanks in advance...

I tried a planted tank with my oscar and pleco once and it ended with my oscar "rearranging" everything to how it saw fit and my pleco bulldozing over everything. So from my personal experience I really wouldn't expect the live plants to last long, but its possible if they were anchor on to something (ie: driftwood) or if you fast growing plants like java fern.

Only time I have ever seen oscar + plants was when my body had a big aro in a tank with 3 oscars and they were always "watching their back" in fear of the arowana. Never touched the plants.

Friend got rid of hte aro because it outgrew his tank... oscars destroyed the plants within a week.

It is possible.

plants I have done with Oscars and other large cichlids: java fern, anubias, cryptocorynes, crinums (onion plants), and large swords . . . it can be done.

if you combine tough and/or bad tasting plants - - crinums are a good example - - and creative use of rocks, pots and driftwood, you can make it work . . .

it is possible to do it but i would say improbale oscars get huge....like from the size of a quarter to 10'' in 2 years...atleast in my experience..and they chuck around stones let alone the subatrate and even move large peices of driftwood
but i always try the impossible to get my own results anyhow and i wouldnt expect any less from anyone else
i say give it a shot and if it works ....instruct others on how to go about the same thing
have a good one

Well it looks like I might just have to give it a try...although I'll have to expect for the worse and hope for the best. I'll start out with some hardy plants, and move on from there.

They will most likely shred live plants trying to get them out of their way. Try some artificial for a bit and see how they react to them. Good luck!
