planted tank

Not sure where this goes ( dident see a section, or I skipped it, Feel free to move this ).

I think i'm gona try and do a planted tank, but I have some questions first;
1.) substrate? Is there any special type or types?
2.) Can I use a w/d filter with a planted tank?
3.) cO2, Whats a good cheap method for this.
4.) I plan on having these fish; ( tell me if it wouldent work, or give me some suggestions on what other fish to add. ) discus,neons,otos,royal pleco( any other cool fish for a planted tank?)
5.) whats a good light for planted tanks? ( please rate weather its best for plants that need low,med, or hi lighting )
6.) Should I use a UV system?

And anything else I've missed.

I'm not sure on what type of plants I want yet. I think I will decide on that once I figure out whats the best type of lighting for these plants.
