My son and I are setting up our first large tank for Cichlids. We have a 180g that we are going to use for either Parachromis Motaguense or Parachromis Multifasciatus. We have a lot of experience with smaller planted tanks and I was wondering if it is even worth trying plants with these fish or if they will just rip them up? I have been looking at lots of setups over the past few months and few if any seem to have any plants.
Thanks in advance.

they like to dig, a lot.

i've used anubias in terracotta pots with larger fish who dig- but no guarantees. P-bass wont' disturb plants but only the smallest species would work for that tank, like kelberi

I agree with the others, these are not normally substrate rooted plant friendly cichlids when close to and after maturity.
With these type cichlids, I use mostly floating type, or Anubius/Java fern attached to water logged wood (but even that can be iffy), and/or heavily plant the sump of their tank.

Thanks everyone for the help and suggestions. I think Ill pull some anubius and ferns from our other tanks and tie them to the drift wood and see what happens. That way if they take it out I have no money tied up in the plants. Thanks again!
