Many people do. My bichir tank is full of hornwort. Pick durable plants because bichirs are powerful and clumsy, and preferrably plants that can deal with low light because bichirs don't really like 900W lights

Yes you can however i suggest either floating plants or low plants like the anubias.All that said if you're planning to use rooted plants I suggest planting the tank a good month or so in advance of adding bichirs.While not generaly destructive plants without well developed roots may be uprooted while they search for food or move thru them -Anne
