I just changed my p. tanks over to sand. Im wondering if theres any special way or special dirt or substrate i should put plants in in order to make them grow better?

Flourite, and eco complete are both very good. I've had better success with flourite, but eco complete looks better. ADA AS is a lot better, but harder to get, and more expensive. If you use sand, you can get root tabs to help keep the root feeders happy.

A cheaper option would be to use a nutrional substrate under your top layer of sand; this method is cheaper than bothe Eco-complete and flourite and brings excellent results...

However, this method can trap very large quantities of toxic gases in your substrate.

The danger of using sand with plants is it compacts and becomes so hard that the roots have a hard time growing in it. Sand is motly silica. It contains no minerals for plants and also does not have the ability to absorb nutrients from the water. Clay gravels like Flourite provide iron, but more importantly are porus and attract positive ions which basically means it aborbs nutrients from the water and holds it for the plants to then uptake.

I have a 75 that I will be redoing. I have a sand bottom, but plan to add 1 or 2 bags of flourite to the sand after I put my driftwood in the tank. Any comments welcomed..

I want to know too.
