Hey.
I'm sure many of you have seen random objects that could hold water and thought "hey, maybe I could do something with that!"

Well, I've bought an over-sized cylindrical vase, that holds about 4G of water. It's about 50cm tall, and I'm using it as a grow out for guppy fry.

I'm thinking of setting up black sand bottom, some tall Amazon swords, and some bushy shorter plants, any suggestions?

What about other tank mates? I'm thinking a couple of Ottos for maintenance, and maybe some shrimp, any recommendation on species?

Thanks,
Paul

I personally wouldnt put any living thing in there besides plants.......depending on how tall it is there isnt much surface area for gas exchange

i agree with 247 plants... not enough oxygen for fish unless your plants are really putting out... plus it sounds like plants would be kinda cramped... nt he problem with your fry would be 4 gallons is suseptable to higher rates of temp drops and increase because is a small body of water... which can/will affect your fry

Too small of a tank for most fish, too small for swords, not big enough for a good light= poor for most plants.

Damn =/ Don't worry about the fry, they're being moved out into a larger rectangular 10G soon, and I plan on using them as feeders anyway.

I might just hardscape the vase with some driftwood and slate. Could always keep a couple of snails or something in there, either that or remove the water and raise stick insects for my lizard.

Thanks anyway :)

Paul
