So i have not made any changes to my setup or wc schedule for about 6 weeks. I have 2 T5s on 9hrs, i have florish with root tabs. i liquid fert with micro and iron. I have a C02 reactor going, drop checker (with tank water) reading aqua green.
The plants that are mostly affected are the ozlets (sp?), swords, and giant vail. Im not sure whats going on, everything was doing great about 4 weeks ago, then i noticed progressive melting and transperent leaves. Temps are the same as they have been for a while. the only thing that has been different is that i went from 4 t5s to 2 t5s about 6-8 weeks ago. could that be the problem? Or maybe its the CO2 reactor not doing a good enough job? (i doubt it though because the bubble ladder couldn't have been doing a better job...)

Anyways, ideas? solutions?

i should mention that the ozlet has a little bit of algea around the edges of the leaves. light, not huge and thick.

Thanks

Are you checking your phosphate levels? High phosphates can cause melting, I lost a lot of java fern to that a while ago when I switched to masivore pellets (phosphates skyrocketed right after the change)

Overcrowding can cause melting too. Any pics of the tank?

it was actually the opposite. I added a phosphate remover, which i guess removed enough phos to kill the plants. Im still learning this stuff so it was a learning mistake.

you said you havent changed the water for 6 weeks. maybe thats why?

NAHHH that's not true..

Are you dosing Excel?

You might want to check your Nitrate level to ensure you have enough. Vals really only need Nitrates and decent light to grow.

How old are the bulbs?

no bulbs, only roots. Maybe they aren't true giants? but they reach well over my 36'' tall tank. Ill check the nitrates when i go home again. I think that the nitrates are at a decent level. They should be with how stocked the tank is. The CO2 i changed back to a diffuser and poped it right in the middle between the vals and the ozlets. im hoping the water streaming right over it will help it to desolve better so those plants can get plenty of CO2

I did check things today. the vals look better, just stunted. I switched on another t5 so now i have 3 going.

The OZLETS are still not growing which is interesting because i would assume those to be one of the hartier plants in my tank.

The tiger lotus is doing really well with new leaves every day or too.

What kind of ballasts did u change to? did u change the lamps? what are they 4100k, 5000k or 6000K? If you only removed 2 lamps from a 4 lamp ballast they arent running with 100% of the power their should be a way to reduce the ballast to 2 lamps to get 100% of the power. Also if you change from a HO (high output) Ballast to a low it will make a huge difference.

How are your plants getting iron?
