I know its not advised but so far my pearsei doesnt mess with the annubias or java fern whats the chances he would leave wysteria, amazon sword, or bocapa alone ?

Java fern and Anubias are "safe plants" for the most part, their leaves are tough. Swords are cheap, I would give them a shot knowing there is a good chance your fish will mess with them.

I was never able to keep any plants with pearsei or bocourti once they hit adult size, although the price tag on anubias prevented me from trying.
My bocourti even ate a 3 ft tall papyrus plant down to the root ball.
below is the plant before they ate it.

That said I have an anubias in with my Etroplus and they have left it alone, although they have eaten java fern to nubs.
I find if I give them a large dandelion per day, they focus on that, as it must be tastier.

Since he leaves the annubias alone i'll just pile that on...maybe test the waters with the wysteria

Always think of your pearsei and bocourti when i think about putting plants in there

Haven't kept pearsei yet but I've had success withonion plants and green tiger lotus with severum, melanurus, and silver dollars. Both are cheap and common so low risk in trying.

Thanks bborko will check them out. I hot used to the look of live plants, hate the way the fake one look now

They'll eat the plants. It's only a question of when, and how fast. I understand the desire to have nice plants with cichlids, but it's just not gonna happen. I planted 20 Jungle Val's in my 540 knowing before I did it the fish would pull em all out. They reach a certain size, and they just don't wanna have plants in their tank. That's Vieja, and Bocourti, and I'm pretty sure Pearsei. If they like lettuce, they'll eat your plants. I've tried Anubias, onion plants, java fern and Val's in my 125, same thing. Uprooted then eaten.

Can't have a nice yard with a big dog.
Can't have Pleco's in an acrylic tank.
Can't have Vieja in a planted tank.

Decisions man. You can do anything you want, but you can't do EVERYTHING you want.
