I have a garden pond that has water hyacinth in it. Was just thinking when i lost my power the other day, with out my filter's running would it help to just throw in some floating plants in my 210 gallon and in the sump to help temporally get me through a power outage?
even though there would be no light source for the plants.

no, get a battery powered air pump, you can add java moss to help with nutrient export as they dont need much light. how long of an outage and how stocked is ur tank?

If there's going to be no light source then the plants will be sucking up oxygen along with your fish.

This is true. Without light, there will be little or no photosynthesis thus no little to no nutrient export.
