can any one suggest some plants for my 125g mbuna tank i have some gesheike an 1 blue cobalt two bumblebees an two kenyai an two pleco in the tank an also 2 hybrids. i would like real lants for the tank. i was told to get some valspernia. an i was wondering about the amazon sword if that would work in my tank. thanks in advance for any info.

Vals work. Anubias and Java ferns are pretty hardy.

If you add buffers or salts those will slow or stop growth.

Wait for a plant sale at your LFS to try a few to see if you fish will destroy them. They will chew on them, just a matter of how much...

My mbuna shred whatever plant I put in my tank. I would start with cheap plants.

the vals an java an anubis plant dont seem very exp. so the next time i get a couple of dollars im going to get me some plants for the tank an see how things go from there.also which tye of val should i get cork screw or there was another type the lfs had cant remeber off top of my head. but tank should look better with some live plants. might have to add co2 too system to get some good results will have to wait an see.

Successful live planted tanks take alot more than just buying a plant and dropping it into a tank - ya they'll live for awhile but flourish probably not. Usually they are always on the decline. Never really as lush as when you purchased it. It takes a degree of expierence and preparation. Cichlids aren't very compatable with planted tanks for many reasons but this isn't the forum for planted tanks. I'd be more than happy to share my expierence with you if this is a road you'd like to travel. It is always fun to try - but investing in C02 - well it has the potential to be a lethal poison to everything that lives in an aquarium - and if your a beginner - well, like I said theres alot more to it.

ok so teach me obeywan i have had some wild plant come upp in my tank an where i didnt get all the roots from some tye of aquatic lant off of one of my rock it has started to grow. so i know the power comact light that i have is strong enough to grow things. i had a little plant come up in my 55 still to small to determine what it is yet though.
