Quick question.... What plants can i put in my tank.. I have a red devil, venustus, oscar, aurautus, jack demps, and a marble catfish what plants will they not eat... Thank you for your input.. (100g) tank

Since you have an oscar, I would say none. In my experience, almost every cichlid hates plants, ESPESCIALLY oscars. You could try some hardier species, but it most likely won't matter as you oscar will probably shred them. Also, your tank will be overstocked when your fish are all grown. Marbled cats can get 24"+, and your tank is only 18" wide.

I agree. Oscars hate plants more then any other cichild IMO. I do have hornwort in my oscar and silver dollar tank, but it is mostly floating. I have been surprised that it has actually lasted.
Hornwort doesn't have roots, so it will be safe if an oscar rips it apart. If the o does rip it apart, then it will grow into a new plant. Hornwort is also at removing waste, and doesn't need a lot of light. It would be the only plant I would ever recomend for an o.
I do keep plants with my CA cichlids, but only strong and hardy plants. Once in awhile a plant will be up rooted, but it rarely happens.

I never kept plants with oscars, but I have with other cichlids . . . I would recommend you try java fern and anubias barteri; both should be easy to find at your LFS or chain stores . . .

the trick is that these plants are tough, fish don't eat them, and they can be tied-down to driftwood or rocks, using fishing line.

other plants that might work: amazon swords, and onion plants (crinums); here, the trick is to keep them potted, and maybe put heavy rocks around the base so they aren't pulled up easily

no guarantees, and I also find that it is easier to introduce cichlids to a planted tank, than it is to introduce plants to a cichlid tank

Yeah i know they will be in about 1.5 years from now.. I bought it for $300 tank wood stand and hood and sump with oscar and red devil. What about some wood decor i'm basically going for the natural look.

I will deff have tolook at the hornwort seems as though the leaves dont taste good if fish were to eat them.WHat plecos would be ok with a vieja hybrid, red devil (8"),albino oscar (10"), marble cat fish (12") 3 jack demps, venustus (6") and aurautus.... My vieja ate my tiger pleco eyes out so i need a pleco that can handle itself with large agressive fish... I was thinking a leopard cactus. any thoughts guys... Where could i get these cool plecos lfs doesn't have anything like this.... This would prob be for my 65 gal tank or 100 depends on which fish need to be together.

It will be fine. It grows so fast, that you wouldn't even notice any of it missing if eaten by any of the fish. Silver dollars will eat anything, and mine won't even touch it. I bet you will find you will end up with more hornwort then you will actually want. I am always cutting mine back and throwing some out. I have never seen any plant grow so fast.
As far as the stocking goes-I think the marble cat will get too big for even the 100g. I would reduce the stock rather then add.

I have hornwort in 2 of my tanks. It can handle almost any SA/CA. My flowerhorn goes through spats where she attempts to rip it and doesn't do any good. She will occasionally kill some by pushing it under a piece of wood and leaving it there but that rarely happens.

If I go high on the ferts in my 29 gallon the hornwort will literally put on OVER an inch per day from all it's tips, yes per day. Growth rate is nuts, hornwort makes my hastifolias look like the aren't growing what so ever.

Melanochromis Auratus is an mbuna and will eat all types of vegatation. If the Venustus is Nimbochromis a Malawi Utaka he'll probably graze on a few varities as well. The Oscar,RD, & JD might not eat them but would probably uproot them. If you don't mind replanting and replacing - anibus, java fern, onion grass, and spears/swords are varities that don't require CO2 suppliments nor heavy metal fertilizing - Both the Fert & CO2 suppliments can cause HITH esp. w/ the Oscar.
