Probably the Poly section
I have a 2.5 gal nano tank that has some show guppies in it and I am building a little tiny sump from a little Rubbermaid tub that will filter the tank so I can have nothing bulky in the tank. In the sump I will have 3 sections one with a sock filled with carbon, one for the return pump (a whole 60 gph! That's a 24x turnover) and a section with some sand, freshwater clams and ghost shrimp. Sort of like a freshwater refugium. I want to put some plants in the mini sump for nitrate removal but dont know which ones. I though of a chunk of java moss, would that be good? Or would a small java fern or dwarf hair grass be better? Thnx I know this is a odd project but I want to see If it will even work

Java Moss will easily take over the whole thing. I'd just get a nice piece of Java Fern or if you can...Anubias Nana Petites. Even 60gph might be too much for a little 2.5g. I had the same idea and thought a 2.5g with a small canister (80gph) would work, but it was just a whirlpool in that thing. I would suggest finding a smaller pump if you can.

With shrimp I personally like marimo balls. Dwarf hairgrass or a java fern would be good choices. I agree that the moss would take over unless you constantly kept it in check.
