i have a question that i hve been wanting answered. ok... so here it is.

is there any plant that i can put into my sump that dosn't need substrate or anything to take ruts in?? i have a 100 gallon with a sump. the tank has turtles and bluegilss which means they make a massive amount of waste. i wanted to put plants in my sump to lower the nitrate and ammonia level. please answer all opinions are welcome!

I was actually thinking about doing the same thing. except I was going to do swords and other plants that can grow outside the water and have them rooted in a container like a breeder box. I may try the bamboo thing though.

Java moss is the safe answer.hornwort grows alot faster, but sometimes dramatically dies off making a mess.

Java moss is the best, java fern can grow on a peice of driftwood or maybe bio-media.

Water hyacinth - kinda messy, but looks nice
Java moss - nearly indestructable
Duckweed maybe???
