I just planted some grass in my 240. I cant remember them name of it but i will post pictures. I believe it is some type of hair grass. Anyway, The tips were starting to brown and they were reaching the water level so I trimmed them a couple of inches. There were planted about 2-3 weeks ago and I have 2 48' VHO fixtures. with 4 40 watt 6700k bulbs. Is this enough lighting? I don't know that much about plants so let me know if im doing something wrong or any tips that you have will be helpful! Thanks!

I'm not a plant guy, but I know that's not enough info. Water hardness, nutrients, etc. info will be wanted.

New plants tend to drop a few leaves, if that's any comfort. Hopefully not false comfort. :(

hardness on my test strips read very soft 0 to 25 ppm. What do you mean by nutrients?

Bump for the fact that I can't seem to get any 'planted' plants to thrive in my 50 gallon...The floaters (water lettuce) are doing well, and the water lilly bulb I planted months ago sprouts new leaves about every other week, but I know my big Pleco is munching on the leaves-holes and floating disjointed leaves...The other plants have the brown leaf ends and even my bamboo just stays the same, until maybe a week ago I am finally starting to see new growth.

zebvance- look into some fertilizer for planted aquariums, since I see sand only, it is most likely that your plants are starving from lack of nutrition. In my tank, it started as just a gravel substrate, with one section I put sand into to give the plants something to grip onto...After a few months, I was able to plant most anything and it wouldn't die, because of the decaying fish food and poo, there were nitrates and such to feed my plants. Another good idea would be to add a simple CO2 reactor, these can be purchased new for under $30,and it take tablets to create the CO2, these last a couple months I hear.

Is there a fertilizer that wont look horrible with the sand and get really dirty? Also I have heard mixed stuff on Co2 some Im not sure if I want to go that route or not. Lots of ppl say its not worth it and other people live by it.

also the lights do not have reflectors.

Some of my palnts died a lot were eaten so now i just stick to anubis and java. They are green and no maintenance at least for me and grow well.

im interested in the java moss. Will it stick to the drift wood?
