plants in a sump info needed

Hornwort is good. Needs lowlight and loves nitrAtes. Your tank shouldn't have any excess ammonia since it should be cycled before you add fish :)

It does tend to lose needles when switching water types...real pain, you gotta really want it!

Hey hornwort is super easy to take care of. Like you don't have to try.

It's definitely worth a try, esp if you can find someone near you that grows it in the same water supply you us (i.e. city water from the same city)

They only fall off if stressed when you first get them. After they get used to it, they grow like crazy, and are really nice to look at :)

hornwort does tend to melt a bit, not nearly as bad as anacharis though. I would try cambomba, or water wisteria. They are my two favorite filter plants.

When I was looking into setting up a sump with a refugium for plant filtration I decided I'd use water hyacinth. It's one of the fastest growing plants known, it's a floating plant so it'd probably utilise the light you provide more efficiently and you could use commonly available lower Kelvin temperature bulbs/tubes in the 4000-5000K range which I understand terrestrial plants do well under. Water hyacinth can be used in biogas production due to its high nitrogen content, which I would assume is due to consuming nitrate in the water it's growing in since as far as I know it doesn't fix atmospheric nitrogen. It also absorbs heavy metals.
