I would like to add some plants to one of my tanks. The issue is I have silver dollars so they aren't going to last long in the main tank. I have a spare AC110 that I'm not using so I'd like to come up with a way of adding plants to those. I was thinking about using some type of a home plant from Lowes and submerging the roots in the AC110. What kind of plant would work well with that? Would the fast moving water from the AC110 be an issue?

The rapid water would normally not be a prob and the best plant for such things is "lucky bamboo " IMO.

What would be an inexpensive plant to try from Lowes? My lights are hanging around 10-12" over the tank.

Lowes has the Lucky Bamboo but it's pretty pricey for a trial plant.

pothos works too, but there is an issue with root growth around the basket, and into the impeller of the HOB filters.

ITS BEEN DONE BEFORE.... I've done it :) Forgot what hte plant was called but need to find the thread over at aquariacentral that inspired it and yes the guy got it from home depot or lowes whatever it was... i used the plant to add more filter power to the AC110 its easy.

You're looking at the wrong store I think :D they cost €1.50 in the IKEA here, that's 2$.

I would get some alocasia polly.....now that would look neat.....pothos peach lillies and bamboo are common

Peace lilly....not peach lilly my bad

I just got back from lowes and picked up what I could find to test this out. I bought some English Ivy (only Ivy I saw) and Brazil Philodendron.. No clue how the brazil thing will work but the English Ivy will supposedly work well. I'm going to clean them off now. Do I cut off the roots so they can grow new roots or leave everything intact?
