I have a 10 gallon planted tank using 20 watts lighting fixture compact flourecnet 50/50. Flourite substrate. My java ferns and moss are doing fine but my sword and anbuias narrow leaf arent doing swell. Anubias leaf tip turning yellow and sword tip and side turning transparent like losing green color. Anyone know what kind of deficiency is it? what i need to do? Please help. thx in advance.

If that 50/50 bulb is half daylight and half actinic thats your prob right there. Actinic do very little good if any for plants they are for Reef tanks.

In anubias yellowing leaves often mean iron deficiency. These plants really don't need that much light, and the little given off by the 50/50 would still be enough to sustain it.

can you please give me advice what to do WyldFya? I mean i have flourtie substrate and does flourish excel every water change which is 1 time per week. I just change the light last night.

For your info the bulbs i use was 2x50/50 with actinic blue mini coralife compact fluorescent bulbs...now i replace with 2x 9 watts compact fluorescent daylight bulbs. I want to keep the lights roughly 2 watts per gallon for low light plants only. My fern and moss have no problems but only the 2 plants i meantion is turning yellow at the tip. Dont know if this new light would make it better.

Excel is to be dosed every day, or every other day at the least. This happen to me before I started dosing with Excel + Dry frets using EI. Although a tank that small might only need excel once a week if you dose a full cap.

you can dose excel every day at recommended dosages, but without all the other elements required for growth the excess excel will just break down into it's harmless components.

Sounds like either iron or potassium. The main difference will be an iron deficiency will show up mainly on new growth, and potassium will show throughout old growth. Seachem and Brightwell both make a wide variety of fertilizers that are both specialty (like iron, nitrogen, potassium) and mixes (like SeaChem's Flourish). With the tank you have you would only have to dose at the rate you already are.
