Was wondering if swords or Anubias are safe with in my 125g with Bristlenose, a pair of Severum and a large Silver Dollar. Wanting to plant my tank but not wanting to watch my expensive plants become food. Thanks,

Jim

Severums and Silver dollars are plant eaters. I think most people will agree to that.

Mine eat almost any plant I put in there. So far I've had good luck with Anubias and most tough-leafed swords. What's crazy is that I've also had luck with the anacharis. Just don't put anything in there that is tender like ulvaceus or venetian lace. I've had to move it before they killed it and put it in with my community tank.

Planted tanks are very rewarding once they're established!

from what i have seen with my severum is that it leaves my java ferns alone but eats holes in the new leafs of the anubias

It's very difficult to keep plants with severums. It seems that whatever they don't eat they shred. You best bet is anubis, or if you can get some java moss to anchor to some driftwood or course rocks you have a chance of it spreading faster than they can eat it. All bets are off though with severums.

Increasing the amount of plant matter in your severums deit might also help. But like I already stated plants and severums are a difficult combo.

I had tried both.. with the same fish.. my silver dollars eat EVERYTHING the ferns anubias even moss... the sevs left the leaves alone but picked at the root and rhizhome all day..

my solution was... convert my 29g into fully planted :)
