By the Beach!
I'm a total noobie with plants so this might be a dumb question but here we go. I'm setting up a SA cichlid tank and they like to be cooled (low 60s) down for a 2-3 months a year. So will this lower temp affect plants? Btw I'm planning on getting types of low-moderate light SA plants. Thanks!

Im going to have two small groups of gymnogeophagus: G. n.sp "Sequiera" and G. labiatus. And Corydora paleatus and Buenos Aires Tetras are going to be mixed in. They can all handle the lower temps so now I'm just trying to figure out the plants. Any ideas? Or should I not worry about it?

Yep egeria and hornwort.

I'd double check the cooling thing though. Think about it this way, if you were being kept as a pet by someone would you prefer they let you live in a constant summer or give you 2 months of New England winter?

I see your point about not cooling but I'm curious about their behavior once the temp drops. If its not that interesting I'll just bump up the temp.
Back to plants, what would be the harm in dropping temperature with plants, say swords for example?

Tropical plants such as swords and vals should not be put in temperature lower than 74 degrees Fahrenheit. The plants will simply wither and the leaves become glassy in appearance.

The impossible to grow yet one of the best lookin' plants- Madagasgar Lace leaf plant luvs cooler temps ie- no heater. I'm on my 3rd season with 2 of them. But these plants do best with straight up carnivores that eat live or prepared foods only, they can't handle the nipping and pulling that most cichlids do. And FYI I'd get a second third and fourth opinion about reducing the heat - low temp drops destroy biological colonies thus crashing the cycle.
