almost all cichlids will detroy or just up root live plants i would say that you need to remove your tank from in front of the window get better filtration and do more water changes and maybe even get a $3 pleco

my cichlids dont uproot my fake plants they only dig under decorations i dunno if they would bother live plants though. i do a water change and like a day or 2 later the water is starting to turn green again.

Pelco wont really clean your alge. try getting alge eater they are skinner then a pelco very small and it can suction mouth like a pelco, not sure whats the name i think it was called chinese alge eater. Hope you know what kind of fish i am talking about. Those will clear up your alge fast. Another was it to get a uv steralizer or dont turn on your lights too often.

I have anacharis (spelling?) in my tank now. I just let it float. I personally wouldn't go for the chinese alge eater, I had one and after it got a little bigger it stopped eating alge and started to suck on my fish.

stay away from Chinese algae eaters, the get very agressive when they get bigger, get Simease (spelling?) algea eaters (SAE) as they eat algae and are not agressive. If your tank is near a window (bad spot for an aquarium) either move it to a location where there's no direct sunlight or (if you can't move it) put a background on the side that faces the window.
Other solutions outside one's already suggested:

Reduce the amount of hours your lights are on.
Add more pants
Add CO2
less feeding and more water changes

Good luck

java fern and java moss are good and can be anchored to rocks, driftwood, etc.
Water sprite has always been a good plant for me as well
