i have two assorted swords that are getting nipped at. going to see what happens

I have a tank of peacocks I keep a few Anubias on rock and they do good

I have found most of the low light plants to work well so far. Specific plants I have kept with Africans have been anubias, java fern, e. Tennellus, apongeton, Amazonian frog bit, amazon swords, dwarf sag, ludwiggia, java moss, crypts, onion plant and a few others I'm sure I missed.

Plants with small roots that don't like to have the substrate disturbed will not do well with diggers from my experience. My mbuna also absolutely destroyed all the jungle vals I have tried but I have heard others have had luck with them so ymmv.

I have a feeling diet has an impact as well if your are keeping primarily herbivorous fish but not feeding them a veggie diet they will probably shred your plants.

Anyway take this all as as anecdotal evidence and you will probably see major differences between the different varieties of cichlids. Keeping cichlids in a planted tank definitely adds to the difficulty but it can be very rewarding.

I have a 40b that is fully planted with 9X 1" EBJD, some keyholes and one curviceps cichlid. I have no issues with the fish harming the plants. I have a mix of anubias, ludwigia, crypts, hairgrass, and hygro.

I have a 29g with a pair of kribensis, a pair of sajica and a chocolate cichlid. None are harming the plants.
