I’ve been wanting to get some live plants for my 150 gallon bichir tank but I’m not sure what ( If anything ) will work with my red shoulder severum . So what are some severum safe plants Yall have had success with?

Java fern, some types of amazon swords if you're lucky enough to keep them in place long enough for them to get rooted. That's about it.

SInce Heros are considered primariily herbivoroius cichlids you may need to expiriment to find that plant your particular individuales find distasteful.
I agree that many herbivores find java fern, and Anubius may be one of the the best choices, (So.might be bolbitus, another African water fern). Anubius left, java fern right.

My herbivore cichlids had a taste for tender dandilions and romaine lettuce, so they preferred that to rooted plants.
So offering tasty substitues might help.

My sev munched on Anubias and Val leaves when I put them in.
So far it doesn’t seem to show much interest in Java moss. Lucky bamboo and pothos have also been safe.

I kept severums in my planted tanks for years and they never ate my plants. I have mostly tough leaf Anubias, Java Fern, Bolbitis and sword, and a few soft leaf Cryptocoryn and stems. But I had to segregate the sexes as a breeding pair would tear up and destroy plants, so are other large cichlid.
