If you where to compare the instincts of a plant to that of an animal what what animal(s) and plant(s) would you compare?

I think from my understanding so far that plants and animals are very similar instinctually, all try to aquire sustinance, and try to survive until they breed.

Plants do not have instincts. Instincts require some sort of thought process. They react to environmental stimuli.
