Plants

Well what kinds of lights do you have in what size tank? Are you going to be providing the plants nutrients? If not, the fish will eat the jf and it will not grow back.

I rarely have a problem with cichlids eating plants. They're more likely to keep uprooting them and banging into them. That said, I've successfully kept Java fern with various Thorichthys.

^ what kind of severums do you have? You do realize in the wild severums live partly off of vegtables/plants?

as joe said, anubias should be a good choice providing that you have the right nutrients, and lighting for the plant. anubias are very hardy aquarium plants, with little needs. and is a rough bad tasting plant to most cichlids so shouldnt have a problem being in your tank

good luck!

My rotkeil didn't bother the Java fern I had, Java moss is another story.

I have java fern in with my midas now. He's weird about it. Some he has torn out and shredded, others he plays with swimming with them in his mouth and then putting it back onto the filter intake, and there are some (the ones with the broadest leaves) that he has left alone other than swimming through and hiding in the plants. I cant explain it but its fun to watch. I've tried duckweed and a couple of other plants but they all get eaten/shredded.
