Hello there everyone. I recently purchased a new tank and was thing of painting the back plasti dip instead of paint. My reasoning was that if I wanted change the backing later I could just peel it off when I wanted...

Has anyone ever tried this method? Is it even safe? I don't see how it could be a problem and it's cheaper than a backing off a roll, and changeable when I want to take it off? Any thoughts or advice?? Thanks below is link to the site.

I don't see any major reasons why it would be a problem, as long as you're able to get good adhesion to the tank. That stuff is meant for tools and other porous objects, the tank may be too smooth for it to adhere properly.

I thought about doing this as well, but with a few coats of acrylic paint under it to protect the acrylic paint from chipping.

Yeah, I did some further research and found some people that have actually used this. Not only on the backing but on the tubing that goes into the tank as well. It seems that the plasti dip is fish safe, as it's only a rubber product. He had some pictures posted and it looked pretty good. No more green intake and spray bars. I don't know if I'll go that far, but I did use it on the back already.... It came out great! It took 2 full cans of Plasti dip for a 150g, which only cost me about $11. It was actually way cheaper than buying premade backing off a roll. I'll post some pics of the finished product if anyone is interested.

Did you spray this inside the tank? Painting the back is more economical and the paint is easily removed with a razorblade. Plus you don't have to drain the tank.
