Hi
Need a large amont of media to suspend in netty bag in vortex flow.
My wife thinks about plastic bottles cut in half and sliced palm tree style, than stuck in bags?
Easy to wash, not charged with chemicals, cheap.
Do you think enough surface?

THX

for bacteria to grow on? I've heard of people using shredded plasting in aquaponics systems. I wonder what plastic bottles would look like coming out of a heavy duty paper shredder or even better a chipper.

could you be a lil more specific?? this is for bio in the tank in front of powerhead???

3 vortex tank of 100 liters each
a tank is 75 cm wide in diameter and water is 68 cm deep
it has 8 bag suspended to half depth, to fill with media
and a sump valve at the bottom for solid waste
In the middle is a pvc tube in L that collect suface water and transfer it to the next filtration tank
In the last filtration tank is the pump head that pump water to the main Fish pond 191cm diameter and level water is 68cm of course

what about charcoal for media?
Partially? 1 bag for 7 bag? to remove while giving antibiotics?

If you can keep the plastic bottles close enough together to prevent channeling between them & bend the slices on the bottles at an angle to guide the water into them.

Media... Either pre-filter the water or put filter media in the first one then scrubbies, bio-balls, lava rock, pea gravel etc.

Do you already have this setup? If so how about some pix?
