Hi, I wanted to get those small critter cages that people keep like crickets and betta in. and I wanted to submerse it in my tank but will the weight of the critter cage+water=crack my 40gallon tank?

I thought I can use it as a in-tank isolation area for introduced feeders(since I don't want them to get eaten all at once) but want them to get used to the aquarium heat/water chemistry.

The dimensions will probably be around: 8" x 14" x 6-1/2" high

Although I highly suggest against feeding feeders to your fish ever (read the sticky here about that), all live food should be quarantined at least a month before feeding out.

that actually might take up a lot of room in your tank. If it plastic, the weight it will add to your tank is pretty much negligible.

If I understand what your asking then the only weight you'll be adding to the tank is the plastic itself because your 40 gallon tank is designed to hold...drum roll please....40 gallons of water.

I've used those critter keepers several times as isolation boxes and with a hole cut in them....a nice home for crayfish.

oh, for feeders! Feeders don't really introduce disease if eaten all at once. As soon as they are eaten, the predator's stomach acids destroy diseases. The problem is when they stay some time in the water, such as not being eaten. Then the disease spreads. Keeping them in a holding tank in your tank might actually be worse than having them all be eaten at once.

I used one in the cooler (transportation tank) when we moved. I had a little guy that the others would eat so I had him in a critter keeper, right in the cooler. I did put a little gravel in the bottom of the critter keeper to keep it down & in one place.

So,, it does work but as the others said,, not a good idea for feeders.

Why do you want them to get used to the water in the first place...? if they are only feeders, they will only be in the water for a few seconds before being eaten.

:iagree::iagree: They only live in the water for less then a minute, so why let them live life in a tiny cage anyway?

They're or turtles and I wanted to have some of them live for awhile..
like the long rosiereds and the big goldfish.

onion01, are you saying that the plastic cage will be too heavy on the bottom of the tank?
