so i was advised to get the plastic pegboard for my sump. works good but i feel it could be better (you know how it is). the deal is that i feel i could be getting better use of the massive amount of bio media in my sump be cause the return flow doesn't flood the whole plate as to get more of an even flow through the media. is this assumption correct? how can i remedy this? i can post pics later tonight if needed, walking out the door right now. thanks for any ideas folks!

oh and i believe this is post #1000! still don't think i know $hit though :grinno:

Maybe sealing the pegboard in certain holes so the water is forced to flow ot the next holes. Like, every other one but not in straight lines, alternating.

No, too big or too many because the water does not spread across the whole drip plate because it can be "dripped" fast enough not to.

thought about that. any ideas? i don't want to have to pull it out and silicon them. any little sort of plugs?

nah, like esploded said, they're too many or too big. this is my first sump and i've learned a lot but i still think it could be better.

grab a sheet of acrylic from home depot. Drill smaller holes (1/16 - 1/8") closest to the water source and glued it to the pegboard...

good idea stan! you can take a look in a couple days if you don't mind.

I find threads faster when they show up in my PM box ;)

Any way, you can look at the problem two ways. Either the holes are too big or the pump is too small. It can be remedied with more water flow, but I have another way.

Turn the peg board so that the smooth side is down and then put a sheet of eggcrate on top. Then on the eggcrate, put on a layer of quilt batting for mechanical filtration. It spreads out the water flow really well. Right after a filter change, there is still more water flow under the overflow pipes, but when it dirties up a little the flow evens out really well. My system splits the water flow to two areas over the drip tray when I have used just quilt batting, but I'm now supplementing with filter floss (Poly-Fill) and I now dump my water in only one spot.

I like your idea chompers, but I think the ultimate soluiton would be a bigger pump! Haha
