In recent years I've stopped keeping plastic plants in my tanks because - as anyone who's ever kept larger CA cichlids knows - plastic plants get ripped to pieces over time (sometimes a very short time). And of course, the other problem was always that the cichlids would pull the plants out of the sand and they'd float to the surface. I was able to solve this by tossing out the silly plastic anchors and epoxying the plants to pieces of lace rock. This proved to be a good idea, and the plants stayed on the bottom and looked great. For awhile. Invariably they would be picked apart and I'd be left with a little plastic nub sticking up from the piece of lace rock.

Doesn't it seem like somebody should come out with some super tough and highly realistic plastic plants for monster fish and monster tanks? Maybe they already exist and I just don't know about them... Figured I'd post here and see if anyone had any thoughts.

I've had better luck with craft store purchased plastic and silk plants mounted in the method you've mentioned than I have with actual 'aquarium plastics'

Me too. All the plant in my 220 came from craft stores and I keep ca/sa's. Also holds up to my larger pleco's as well

Never had any luck with plastic plants or sponge filters either. Big cichlids and plecos = rock or driftwood only tanks. LOL

*Looks at floating plastic plants in 125g and sighs*

Hahaha. Yeah, it's a losing battle! I've never seen any craft store plants that looked good/realistic enough for my taste... Someone here needs to start manufacturing their own!
